Alla Elana Cohen
Alla Elana Cohen is a composer and pianist. She lives in the USA, in Boston, MA. She came to the USA from Moscow, Russia in 1989. She is a faculty member (Associate Professor) at Berklee College of Music, Boston, and at New England Conservatory, Boston. Ms. Cohen is an active composer with an extensive catalogue of compositions in all genres of instrumental (orchestral and chamber) and vocal music. Her compositions are performed by internationally acclaimed soloists and collectives, such as Ariel Quartet, JACK Quartet, Xanthos Ensemble, clarinetist Moran Katz, cellists Sebastian Baverstam and Boston Symphony Orchestra member Mickey Katz, flutist Bianca Garcia, etc. Recent concerts of Ms. Cohen’s music generated a great response from the media. Articles about Ms. Cohen appeared in the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, the Boston Phoenix, Edge Boston, Bay Windows, and other media sources, such as boston.com and WGBH TV. Her music has received the highest praise from such distinguished and highly renowned musicians as composer Yehudi Wyner, Pulitzer Prize winner; Ran Blake, recipient of McArthur Foundation Grant; pianist Gabriel Chodos, winner of the Artist Guild Competition, etc. Alla Cohen has released 5 CDs of her compositions, among them works for chamber orchestra, string quartet and other chamber ensembles, and pieces for solo cello and solo piano. Many composition students of Alla Cohen are prize-winners of prestigious composers’ competitions. Ms. Cohen also writes poetry.
